Ubuntu 16.04 SDK install

Postby simon » Wed Mar 22, 2017 2:12 am

I just struggled through installing the SDK 5.3.2 on Ubuntu 16.04 and I thought I'd share the details in case anyone else has similar problems.

I downloaded the Linux 64bit SDK, set the environment variable as detailed on the install page.

Then tried to run the example simpleLite, but had an error because glstreamer could not be found. Some research it seems not supported for Ubuntu 16.04.

I guess the SDK binaries come with all video capture methods built in so running ./Configure and deselecting gstreamer did not work.
So I installed v4l2
>apt-get install lib4vl-utils
and ran ./Configure selecting only v4l2 and set as default.

Then I tried to re-compile. Thought I would have to download the source code from Github but seems only have to rebuild from what is in the SDK.
- from top directory> make clean //(maybe has some circular cd in it, as had to terminate after some time)
> make
Everything OK except for calib_camera.cpp and calib_stereo.cpp in utils/calib_*/
Compilation error: "CV_CALIB_CB_ADAPTIVE_THRESH not declared in this scope"
I guess problem with newer versions of openCV which is used in camera calibration. (I have OpenCV 3.2.0 installed)
So in both .cpp files changed
#include <opencv/cv.h>
#include <opencv2/opencv.hpp>
and compilation worked.

Then could run example program "simpleLite".

I hope this helps someone.
